Hey everyone! 👋
It’s been another busy couple of weeks in AI.
We’ve seen new models, smarter AI agents, and some interesting moves from the biggest companies in the industry. But what excites me just as much is seeing independent makers turn their ideas into real products.
So, for this edition, we’re catching up on two weeks of AI news, celebrating our latest Altern BuildBoard winners, and giving a well-deserved shout-out to the sponsors supporting our community.
Let’s get into it!
🧠 What Happened in AI Over the Last Two Weeks?
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra
On October 26, OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a faster, more affordable model built for tasks like understanding what’s on your screen, working across apps, and handling everyday professional work.
The interesting part? OpenAI says its standard API pricing is 50% lower than the previous Terra generation.
AI isn’t just getting smarter. It’s becoming more practical to use at scale.
Anthropic launched Claude Duet
Imagine an AI assistant that doesn’t need you to start every conversation.
That’s the idea behind Claude Duet, introduced on October 21. It can check connected apps, prepare a morning briefing, help with tasks, and let you know when something needs your attention.
It’s still an early research preview, initially available through a waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers.
This feels like another step toward AI becoming a real working assistant instead of just a chatbot.
OpenAI and Google Cloud are teaming up
Here’s something you don’t see every day: two major AI competitors working together.
OpenAI announced that its models and Codex workflows are coming to Google Cloud, giving businesses more freedom to choose which AI models they use.
For developers and startups, more choice and fewer platform limitations are always welcome.
AI agents are getting a shared set of skills
Anthropic announced that it’s donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation.
Agent Skills lets developers package instructions, workflows, and resources that AI agents can reuse across different tools.
More than 70 agent platforms have already integrated the standard, according to Anthropic.
I like this direction. Builders shouldn’t have to reinvent everything whenever they switch AI models or platforms.
Mistral made some interesting moves in voice AI
Mistral introduced Voxtral 3 on October 20, bringing new speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and real-time voice agent capabilities.
Think more natural voice conversations, multilingual assistants, and automated phone workflows.
Voice AI continues to be an exciting space to watch, especially for customer support and business automation.
Mistral also introduced Timestral
On October 15, Mistral released Timestral, a family of models designed for time-series forecasting.
Instead of generating text, these models focus on predicting patterns in data — useful for things like demand forecasting, operational planning, and monitoring.
A good reminder that AI innovation goes far beyond chatbots.
One thing is becoming pretty clear: AI is moving beyond answering questions. It’s starting to take action, connect with our tools, and handle real work.
And speaking of people building useful things...
🏆 Two Weeks of Altern BuildBoard Winners
One of my favorite things about building Altern is discovering what other makers are working on.
Every week, new products launch on Altern BuildBoard, and the community helps bring attention to the ones they love.
We’ve had two more rounds of launches, so let’s give these builders some recognition.
🏅 Week 42 Winners (October 12–18)
🥇 1st — AgentID
A way for AI agents to sign into apps using their own verified identities. As more agents start doing things on our behalf, tools like this are becoming increasingly important.
🥈 2nd — Fufa AI
Helping ecommerce businesses with AI-powered product recommendations, WhatsApp campaigns, abandoned-cart recovery, and customer support.
🥉 3rd — FaceGPT.ai
An AI-powered reverse face search tool for finding matching public images and online appearances.
4th — Producer Tag AI
A simple way for music producers to generate custom audio tags with different voices and effects.
5th — ReelsCut
Turns raw talking-head recordings into short videos by removing unwanted takes, trimming pauses, and adding captions.
A huge congratulations to all five teams! 🎉
🏅 Week 43 Winners (October 19–25)
Another week, another group of makers putting their work out into the world.
🥇 1st — IndieStore
A place for indie hackers and startup founders to launch their products and discover what other independent makers are building.
🥈 2nd — Tallpine

Helps Amazon sellers understand their real profit per product by bringing together fees, refunds, advertising costs, and other expenses.
5th — The Automated AI Customer Support & Ticketing Engine
An AI-powered system that helps small teams automatically organize, respond to, and route customer support tickets.
Congratulations to everyone who made it onto the leaderboard!
And to everyone who launched but didn’t make the top five: thank you for sharing your work. Getting something out into the world is an achievement in itself.
That’s what BuildBoard is all about: giving builders a place to launch, be discovered, and get support from the community.

❤️ A Special Thank You to Our Sponsors
I also want to take a moment to thank the amazing teams that supported Altern during these past two weeks.
Your support means a lot and helps us continue building a place where independent products can get discovered.
Job applications take time, especially when you’re applying for several positions.
JobCrawls helps job seekers in Finland generate tailored CVs and cover letters based on their actual experience and the job they’re applying for. It’s free and supports English, Finnish, and Swedish.
Thanks to the JobCrawls team for supporting Altern!
If you’ve ever spent too much time looking for a file on your Mac, Strata Files might be worth checking out.
It’s a free macOS file manager with fast search, dual-pane navigation, and a visual disk usage map to help you stay organized.
A big thank you to the Strata Files team for being part of our community.
Denser AI helps businesses add an AI chatbot to their websites without coding.
It can answer questions using your website content, provide source-backed responses, help visitors book meetings, and hand conversations over to your team when needed.
Thanks to the Denser AI team for supporting Altern and our builders!
To all three sponsors: thank you for believing in what we’re building. 💙
And to our readers, please take a moment to check out their products. Supporting these teams also helps support the Altern community.
🚀 Keep Building, Keep Launching
Before wrapping up, I just want to say something to everyone building right now.
It’s easy to get distracted by the pace of AI news. There’s always another model, another announcement, or another company raising money.
But behind all that noise, there are people quietly building tools that solve real problems.
That’s the part of this industry I love most.
If you’re working on something, don’t keep it hidden until it’s perfect. Put it out there, get feedback, and let people discover it.
Launch your product on Altern BuildBoard
And if you discover something useful on BuildBoard, show the maker some love. A little support can go a long way.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for being part of Altern.
See you in the next edition! 👋
